Innovative measures adopted for Sinnar-Shirdi Highway with construction focus on sustainability

As part of the ongoing development of the Sinnar-Shirdi highway in Maharashtra, a range of groundbreaking techniques have been employed to ensure sustainability and optimize resources. These measures encompass the efficient utilization of plastic waste in the construction of service roads, the implementation of advanced methods like Cement Treated Base (CTB) and Cement Treated Sub Base (CTSB), and the incorporation of ‘RAP’ (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) for the road’s surface.

Sinnar-Shirdi Highway Project Incorporates Innovative Techniques to Reduce Carbon Footprint and Ease Traffic Congestion, said, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways. He also highlighted the progress made in the 4-laning of the Sinnar-Shirdi section of NH-160 in Maharashtra. This significant undertaking, part of the Bharatmala Pariyojna, includes the construction of the Sinnar Bypass. Gadkari emphasized the project’s social and economic significance, particularly as it will provide a dedicated route, or ‘Marg,’ for Sai Baba devotees on their pilgrimage to Shirdi by foot. Moreover, it is expected to act as a catalyst for rapid development in the surrounding areas.

The primary objective of this initiative, according to Gadkari, is to considerably reduce travel time between Shirdi and Nashik/Trimbakeshwar, two prominent religious towns in Maharashtra. To uphold their commitment to sustainability, the project incorporates several noteworthy techniques aimed at minimizing the carbon footprint and alleviating traffic congestion. These practices include the utilization of plastic waste in the construction of service roads, the implementation of Cement Treated Base (CTB) and Cement Treated Sub Base (CTSB), and the use of ‘RAP’ (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) for the road’s surface.

Gadkari further expressed that the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is instrumental in fostering a more efficient and environmentally friendly mobility network, while simultaneously promoting the holistic development of the region.
