The Coal Ministry has asked the coal companies to plant more than 50 lakh saplings in and around coalfields. The ministry has targeted to expand green cover in 2400 hectare area across coalfields in 2022-23.
Saplings will be planted in the areas in reclaimed mined out areas of coal companies apart from the areas made available by State Government agencies.
The greening drive is running in full swing with 1000 Ha of land has been already covered through avenue plantation, block plantation, bamboo plantation, grassland creation and high-tech cultivation.
Afforestation helps in preventing soil erosion, stabilising the climate and minimizing the coal mining footprints apart from preserving wild life.
