National Institute of Design joins hands with EEPC India to tackle health challenges

In order to promote and upgrade designs as well as technology for medical devices and to enable the industry to meet the upcoming requirements of the health centres in the post-COVID-19 scenario, the National Institute of Design has collaborated with EEPC India.

With an aim to take the superior and innovative designs to the implementation stage, the MSME Ministry has, under a special government scheme, given approval to seven incubation ideas. In a webinar session organized at the launch of the EEPC India-NID Design Series, the Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner of MSME, D.K Singh shared the information about it.

He was of the opinion that the dependence on intricate medical devices, especially for critical care calls for a steady focus on design and innovation.  He said that the industry has been able to produce over two lakh PPE kits in one day to fight the pandemic and that medical devices have been a key import-dominant sector in India.

Mahesh Desai, chairman, EEPC India, said they have been bringing together, designers, policymakers, researchers, and industry—all on one platform to discuss new design possibilities.
