Nine COVID-19 vaccine candidates in world, three in India in advanced stages

In a meeting on COVID Appropriate Behaviour chaired by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science and Technology it was brought to light that there are nine vaccine candidates in the world in advanced stages of their trial. Three more vaccine candidates are being developed in India out of which one in advance stage 3 and two in stage 2 trials. Dr. Vardhan informed this in a meeting attended by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, besides Heads and Directors of Autonomous Institutions of Department of Science and Technology.

He said India may soon have its indigenous vaccine and that the next couple of months are truly crucial. He urged people to follow all precautions in the meanwhile. He added that the Indian Government has ramped up testing and the recovery rate in India is the highest in the world. He said the fatality rate is lowest in the country if compared to the world and that active cases in India are declining.
