NTPC invites expression of interest for a pilot project on hydrogen blending with natural gas

India’s largest integrated power generating company, NTPC Limited has come out with a global expression of interest (EOI) for a pilot project on hydrogen blending with natural gas in city gas distribution. Recently, the NTPC has also issued a tender for green hydrogen fuelling station in LEH, besides a tender by NTPC Vidut Vyapar Nigam Limited for the procurement of Fuel Cell Buses. Moreover, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL) is also setting up a 1.25 MW dedicated Solar Plant at LEH to power the hydrogen fuelling station.

In its bid to play a key role in India’s transition to hydrogen economy, the NTPC has come out with this first of its kind pilot project, the successful execution of which will also fulfill the import substitution aim in line with the government’s ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’. It will also demonstrate the government’s decarbonisation objective.

This apart, NTPC is also engaged in exploring the production of green ammonia with the aim to decarbonise the fertilizer industry. NTPC is also expected to take final decision on investment on green methanol production at Ramagundam as it has already completed a detailed study for this project.
