Over half of India’s airports achieve 100% green energy consumption

In the latest update, 100% of green energy is being used at 55 out of the 86 airports across the country. This move has significantly contributed to reducing the carbon footprint at airports, as conventional energy sources have been the main culprits of carbon emissions. To further enhance sustainability, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has advised all operational airports with scheduled operations and upcoming Greenfield Airports to strive for Carbon Neutrality & Net Zero status, which involves extensive use of green energy.

Notably, airports worldwide are increasingly prioritizing renewable and green energy solutions. Leading the way, airports like Heathrow, Bristol, and London Gatwick in the UK; Amsterdam in the Netherlands; Athens in Greece; Oslo in Norway; Brussels in Belgium; Budapest in Hungary; Copenhagen in Denmark; San Diego in the United States; Vancouver in Canada; and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates have already achieved Carbon Neutrality through various measures, including the adoption of green and renewable energy sources.

The information was shared by Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Gen. (Dr) V. K. Singh (Retd), during a written reply in the Lok Sabha today. For a detailed list of airports using 100% green energy, refer to the Annexure.
