NTPC wins 80 MW floating Solar Project at Omkareshwar Reservoir

NTPC Renewable Energy has won contract for an 80 MW Floating Solar project at Omkareshwar Reservoir in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh with its bid.

The competitive bidding process took place on August 8, 2023, orchestrated by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), a joint venture established by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and MP Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. The resultant tariff discovered is ₹3.80/kWh, and the electricity generated from this initiative will be channeled to serve the power needs of the state DISCOMs in Madhya Pradesh. It is worth noting that the country’s largest Floating Solar project, boasting a capacity of 100 MW, is situated at NTPC Ramagundam in Telangana.

As of the current date, the NTPC Group has a functional renewable energy operational capacity of 3.3 GW. Furthermore, it has an impressive pipeline of 20 GW in renewable energy capacity, encompassing a substantial 4 GW dedicated to Energy Storage Systems. Notably, NTPC is also pioneering the nation’s inaugural Green Hydrogen-based PNG blending project.

Setting its sights high, NTPC has committed itself to accomplishing a remarkable 60 GW Renewable Energy capacity by the year 2032. In tandem with this, the organization is actively positioning itself as a key player in the domains of Green Hydrogen Technology and Energy Storage, solidifying its role in shaping a sustainable energy landscape.
