Empowerment of women through “Lakhpati Didis” and innovative Agri-Tech initiatives
On the auspicious occasion of the 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the historic Red Fort, shedding light on the government’s progressive initiatives. The Prime Minister emphasized the commitment to collaborate with Women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) to foster the emergence of 2 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’ (prosperous sisters) within rural communities. Notably, a staggering 10 crore women are presently affiliated with these Women’s SHGs, bringing about significant transformations at the grassroots level. He observed that these groups have established a presence in various sectors, with Didis (sisters) taking on roles within banks, Anganwadis (childcare centers), and even healthcare providers.
In his address, the Prime Minister shifted focus to the realm of agri-tech, advocating for the utilization of science and technology to drive rural development. He unveiled plans to extend financial assistance and training to 15,000 Women’s SHGs, empowering them to operate and maintain drones. This visionary initiative, aptly named “Drone ki Udaan” (Flight of the Drone), is set to be spearheaded by these very Women’s SHGs.
