The Government of India has been facilitating free of cost COVID vaccines to states and UTs by allowing direct procurement of vaccines for them. In this process, every month fifty per cent of the vaccine doses produced by any manufacturer would be procured by the Central government and made available to states and UTs free of cost.
Already the Government has provided 22 crore vaccines to states and UTs through both direct state procurement category and free of cost category. The total consumption of the vaccines also include the wastages of 20,13,74,636 doses.
While 1.77 crore doses of the vaccines are still available with states and UTs, further 1 lakh vaccines are in the pipeline. These shots are expected to be provided in the next couple of days.
