Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has dedicated to the nation a 19.85 Km long Alternate Alignment (from km 0.00 to km 19.350) of National Highway (NH)310 in Sikkim. The road serves as an important link to bolster defence preparedness in the Nathula sector as well as in entire East Sikkim in general. The previous alignment was extensively damaged because of natural hazards and sinking hence the need of this alternate alignment had emerged. While addressing the gathering in Sikkim at the location, Singh highlighted the Government’s drive for infrastructure development even in far flung locations and he also reiterated the government’s commitment towards speeding up infra development in line with the Prime Minister’s Act North East policy.
The new alignment has been constructed by Border Road Organisation (BRO). Over the last some years, BRO has undertaken an unprecedented expansion of its capabilities. DS-DBO Road, the Atal Tunnel and the new alignment of NH- 310 are the examples of fast paced and high quality results delivered by BRO towards operational and strategic preparedness. Singh appreciated the efforts of BRO and also highlighted the future works that the BRO is going to undertake while expressing confidence that the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission in defence will progress rapidly.
