Textile Minister recommends PPP model to reenergise cottage emporium

Union Textile Minister Piyush Goyal inspected Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIC), a retail outlet under Central Cottage Industries Corporation, a PSU under the Ministry of Textiles. He suggested to find out the possibility of  Public Private Partnership (PPP) to expand its business. He emphasised on promotion of Indian craft on global scale by providing it a viable and modern marketing platform.

Goyal appreciated the repository of Handicraft and Handloom products showcased from all over India, representing a rich heritage that includes GI tagged products, One District One Product (ODOP) and languishing crafts.

He emphasised on the importance of promoting the craft of India and the weaving traditions and to project Indian craftspersons globally by providing them a modern, viable and efficient marketing platform.

The minister directed the CCIC officials to explore the possibility of PPP to revamp the Cottage Emporium and expand its business. He said Cottage Emporium is India’s window to the world to offer high quality assortment of Indian handicrafts, which comprises the collection of masterpieces created by skilled weavers and artisans.
