TRIFED to bolster tribal commerce through digitisation drive

With an aim to promote tribal commerce,  TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has undertaken an all-encompassing digitisation drive. The initiative also involves setting up e-platforms of international standards to link artisans and village-based tribal producers, besides mapping them. The initiative is targeted at effectively promoting tribal commerce.

The digitization drive will help bring benefits to the forest dwellers, besides village hats and the warehouses. Through this initiative, TRIFED is in the process of digitising all the information related to the forest dwellers associated with the Van Dhan Yojana, village haats (markets) and their warehouses. It will help bring benefits to the doorsteps of all these people by identifying and mapping all tribal clusters through GIS technology in accordance with Atmanirbahr Abhiyan.

TRIFED has undertaken several initiatives like ‘Mera Van Mera Dhan Mera Udyam’ by adapting ‘Go Vocal for Local Go Tribal’. Already its flagship programmes have proven to be a panacea for the tribals in these distressing times by providing them employment through the generation of livelihood for them.

Over 1 lakh items have been purchased by TRIFED from the tribal artisans whose stocks were lying unsold due to the spread of the pandemic. It has further launched plans to market this unsold inventory through Tribes India website, besides Amazon, GeM and Flipkart. With their continuing endeavors, the TRIFED team is forging ahead to bring the tribal population to the mainstream of development.
