Over 2.95 crore houses under PMAY-G to be delivered by 2022

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), the rural housing scheme under the ‘Housing for all’ programme, the government has targeted to complete construction of 2.95 crore houses by 2022. The Rural Development Ministry has released a statement according to which the beneficiaries under this scheme will be selected through a three-stage validation process that includes socio-economic caste census 2011, geo-tagging, and Gram Sabha.
To meet the objectives of this scheme and for the timely completion of this project, various measures have been applied like the use of new housing designs based on the studies of local and region-specific typologies and evidence-based monitoring at all pre-determined construction stages through their geo-tagged photos, besides training of masons belonging to the rural areas.
The scheme serves the dual purpose— while the poor will get home, it will also generate over 90-95 days of work under MGNREGS—the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The beneficiaries are also provided electricity connection at their homes under the existing power schemes of the Ministry of Power, along with LPG connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Scheme coupled with tap connection under Jal Jeevan Mission and in-house toilet under Swacch Bharat Mission.
The Ministry of Rural Development has exuded confidence that it would be able to achieve the construction of the targeted number of houses under PMAY-G by March 2022 in partnership with the states.
