Water Supply in Uttarakhand to be strengthened with Rs 164.03 Crore schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission

Jal Jeevan Mission has emerged as a boon for several villages in Uttarakhand facing acute water crisis. The state level scheme sanctioning committee in the state has approved Rs 164.03 Crore worth drinking water supply schemes in the state. Total eight such schemes have been approved for providing tap water connection under Jal Jeevan Mission and benefitting 140 villages across Bageshwar, Nainital, Dehradun and Uttarkashi, these schemes will provide tap water connection to about 9200 rural homes in Uttarakhand.

As per the plans more than 48 thousand people across 140 villages in Uttarakhand will be provided tap water connection when these schemes will be complete by December 2022.

Jal Jeevan Mission was launched on 15th August 2019 and under this mission, the State Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee (SLSSC) acts as a State level Committee which considers water supply schemes/ projects. The moto of Jal Jeevan Mission is β€˜no one is left out’ with an aim of universal access to the potable tap water supply. During the last 28 months, Jal Jeevan Mission has been implemented with speed. Under the mission Over, 8.69 Crore (45.20%) rural household have received tap water supply across the country and it comprises the Goa, Haryana, Telangana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, D&D and D&NH where 100% household tap connection in rural areas have been ensured.
