Atmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana launched to encourage employment in challenging COVID-19 scenario

The central government has launched Atmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yozana as part of Atma Nirbhar Bharat 3.0 package with aim to incentivize the creation of new employment opportunities at a time when India is recovering from the pandemic. The scheme is launched to provide financial assistance to the employers of the establishments registered with EPFO.
The initiative is meant to assist the employers of the EPFO registered establishments to support them in give employment to those people who lost jobs during the pandemic between March to September 2020. Under this initiative the government will pay 12% of wages to both the employer and the employee for their payable contribution under EPF & MP Act 1952.
The scheme that commenced from October 1, 2020,Β  shall remain open till June 30, 2021 and the eligibility criteria to avail benefits under this scheme shall be as following:
β€’ The establishment should already be registered before the commencement of this scheme.
β€’ It should employ a minimum of two new employees if the reference base of the employees is less than, or equal to fifty and there should be a minimum of five employees if the reference base of the employees is more than fifty.
β€’ For new establishments willing to get covered under this scheme, the employee reference base shall be treated as zero while for all the newly eligible employees the benefits can be availed.
