India achieving excellence in Information and Communications technologies: Devusinh Chauhan

Attending the World Summit of Information Society (WSIS) 2022 held in Geneva, Switzerland, the minister of state for communications, Duvusingh Chauhan said, India has been at the forefront of global digital transformation and it’s achieving excellence in the use of information and communication technologies.

The event was co-organized by International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and India is contesting for re-election to the ITU Council for 2023-2026 term. Since 1869, the country has been one of the members of ITU. Chauhan said India shares the vision of ITU.

In the summit, the minister proposed name of Ms. M. Revathi, as India’s candidate for Member, Radio Regulations Board (RRB). He reiterated India’s firm commitment to contribute to the realization, of the goals of ITU.
The minister also participated in various sessions at the event. He apprised the global forum about the country’s initiatives like Bharatnet to cover 6 lakh villages, besides providing umbrella mobile coverage for all villages with high speed internet access.

He also informed that the country has successfully got a customised standards approved that will further help in providing 5G services in the rural areas. The minister also held bilateral meetings and met several dignitaries and Excellencies on the sidelines of the summit. Haolin Zhou, Secretary General of ITU, appreciated India for its initiatives in ICT.
