Infrastructure of Doordarshan and Akashvani to be strengthened further

A proposal regarding Central Sector Scheme “Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development” (BIND) has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. Committed to improve the infrastructure of All India Radio (AIR), Doordarshan and Prasar Bharati, the government has allocated ₹2,539.61 crore for this purpose.

The BIND is targeted to provide financial support for expansion and upgradation of broadcasting infrastructure and content development. Prasar Bharati through Doordarshan and All India Radio has played a stellar role in spreading awareness to the public., especially during the pandemic.

Development of high-quality content is another priority area of the scheme which aims to ensure the availability of varied content through capacity upgradation of DTH platform so that more channels could be accommodated. As part of the project, purchasing of OB vans, digital upgradation of AIR Studios and DD will also be done.

It will increase coverage of the AIR FM transmitters to 80% by population and to 66% by geographical area up from 68% and 59% and respectively.
