Mineral production in the country grows by 5.9% during January 2024
The index of mineral production in the mining and quarrying sector for January 2024 (Base: 2011-12=100) is 144.1, which is 5.9% higher compared to January 2023. According to provisional statistics from the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), the cumulative growth for the period April-January 2023-24 over the corresponding period of the previous year is 8.3%.
The important minerals have witnessed production levels as following: Coal 998 lakh tonnes, Lignite 41 lakh tonnes, Petroleum (crude) 25 lakh tonnes, Natural gas (utilized) 3073 million cubic meters, Gold 134 kg, Chromite 251 thousand tonnes, Lead concentrate 34 thousand tonnes, Iron ore 252 lakh tonnes, Manganese ore 304 thousand tonnes, Bauxite 2426 thousand tonnes, Limestone 394 lakh tonnes, Copper concentrate 12.6 thousand tonnes, Magnesite 13 thousand tonnes, Phosphorite 109 thousand tonnes andZinc concentrate 152 thousand tonnes.
Important minerals showing positive growth during January 2024 over January 2023 include: Magnesite (90.1%), Coal (10.3%), Copper concentrate (34.2%), Bauxite (9.8%), Limestone (10%), Natural gas (utilized) (5.5%), Manganese Ore (7.8%), Iron Ore (4.3%), Lead concentrate (5.2%), Lignite (3.6%), and Petroleum (crude) (0.7%) Zinc concentrate (1.3%). Other important minerals showing negative growth include Chromite (-35.2%), Gold (-23.4%) and Phosphorite (-44.4%).
