MNRE simplifies procedures to install rooftop solar plants for residential consumers

Under the Rooftop Solar Programme, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has simplified procedures for the residential consumers to install rooftop solar plant. As per the simplified procedure, the household beneficiary will have to apply on national portal to install rooftop solar plant after submitting the necessary information such as the details of bank account for the transfer of subsidy amount.

A format of agreement is required to be executed between the beneficiary and the vendor for this purpose. The plant is required to be installed by the beneficiary within a specified period. The beneficiary will have to apply on the national portal for net-metering and the application will be forwarded to the concerned DISCOM online.

Upon receiving the application, the DISCOM will advice the beneficiary to obtain the net-meter. After the installation of net-meter, the DISCOM officer will submit a commissioning and inspection report. After receiving the inspectoin report, the beneficiary will receive subsidy in his/her bank account.

A grievance redressal mechanism is also under planning. The ministry has advised the general public not to trust any spurious or misleading information appearing on social media with regard to registration fee or any type of payment for receiving subsidy.
