PM Inaugurates and Lays Foundation Stone for Multiple Connectivity Projects

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several key projects today, emphasizing the importance of enhancing urban mobility. These projects included the Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section, Kolkata Metro’s Howrah Maidan – Esplanade Metro section,  Taratala – Majerhat Metro section (part of Joka- Esplanade line). Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section, Pune Metro stretch from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi,  Tripunithura Metro station, the Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension project (Phase IB) from SN Junction Metro station and the Agra Metro stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar.

Apart from all these projects, Modi also inaugurated the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor. He also laid the foundation stone for extending the Pune Metro Rail project Phase 1 between Pimpri Chinchwad Metro-Nigdi. During his visit, the Prime Minister took an overview of all metro projects and rode the Esplanade – Howrah Maidan metro route, India’s first Underwater Metro in Kolkata. He interacted with workers and school children during his metro journey.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Puri highlighted the significant progress in India’s infrastructure development, especially in the urban transport sector, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that before 2014, urban infrastructure was often neglected, with cities seen as challenges rather than opportunities. However, the government has since transformed this perspective, leading to substantial momentum in infrastructure development.

Puri emphasized that India has expanded its modern metro systems from just 248 km in 2014 to 939 km after today’s inauguration. He also mentioned that more than three-quarters of India’s current metro rail network has been developed in less than ten years. Puri attributed this success to the government’s commitment to the Prime Minister’s ‘Gati Shakti vision’, which aims to integrate the RRTS with all public transport systems, further enhancing urban connectivity and mobility.
