PM Modi unveils solar power initiative PM Surya Ghar for free electricity
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a rooftop solar scheme, offering up to 300 units of free electricity per month to households. The project, with an investment exceeding Rs. 75,000 crores, seeks to illuminate 1 crore households.
Ensuring the success to the scheme’s success, the Central Government will provide substantial subsidies directly to individuals’ bank accounts and offer heavily concessional bank loans, thereby relieving the public of any financial burden. A National Online Portal will be established to integrate all stakeholders, enhancing convenience and accessibility.
To promote the scheme at the grassroots level, Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats will be incentivized to encourage rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions. This initiative is expected to increase household income, reduce power bills, and generate employment opportunities.
