SMP Kolkata port records all-time high throughput
Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMP Kolkata) has recorded all time high throughput by handling 65.66 million tonnes of cargo in 2022-23. SMP Kolkata also includes Haldia Dock Complex and Kolkata Dock System.
According to SMP Kolkata Chairman P. L. Haranadh, the port posted net surplus of Rs 304 crore in 2022-23 and the net surplus has improved by 150 per cent over the previous year.
With such a strong performance SMP Kolkata has been elevated to 5th position from the earlier 6th position in cargo handling when compared to the major ports of the country in 2022-23.
SMP Kolkata is stressing on PPP projects to augment its capacity, The port has been awarded three major projects involving Rs730 crore investment through PPP mode in FY 22-23.
