Steel plants of the country set an example by supplying 1.45lakh metric tons of medical oxygen
Amid the rising cases of COVID-19 cases in India the steel fraternity across the country has come forward to fulfill the fast growing demand for medical Oxygen to help treat the patients. Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Steel, has informed the steel plants have already supplied 1.43 lakh metric tons of medical oxygen to different states and the central public sector enterprises.  Since the beginning of the panemic last year, ‘Steel Authority of India’ has supplied liquefied medical oxygen from its plants in Bokaro Steel City, Bhilai, Dugapur, Burnpur and Rourkela to the hospitals in different COVID-19 affected locations .
Meanwhile, Asia’s largest steel plant ‘Bokaro Steel Plant’ sent two Oxygen Express trains, one of which carrying 30,000 litres of liquid medical Oxygen already reached Lucknow from Bokaro, Jharkhand. SAIL has been supplying liquid Oxygen from its other plants in Bhilai, Burnpur, Durgapur and Rourkela since the beginning of the pandemic last year. Private steel manufacturers, Tata Steel and ArcelorMittoal Nippon are also supplying Oxygen to the hospitals treating COVID-19 patients.
