Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port handled record cargo traffic

Thanks to diverse cargo growth along with arrival of additional cargo, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP) of Kolkata has handled record Carto Traffic during April 2022 to January 2023. P. L. Haranadh, Chairman, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata informed SMP, Kolkata handled rail-borne traffic of 28.823 MT (KDS-4.92 MT, HDC-23.903 MT) compared to 24.974 MT (KDS-4.91 MT, HDC-20.064 MT) during this period. Overall, SMP Kolkata has been ranked 5th in Cargo handling during this period in comparison to major ports of the country.

Emphasising that the commodities that attributed to this growth include Vegetable Oil, LPG, Manganese Ore, Iron and Steel, Coking Coal, Pulses, container etc, Haranadh said this success has been achieved on the back of various user-friendly measures like improved facilities, better services and cost-effective charges besides the efforts of the employees of this port.
