Efforts towards making cities garbage-free and water-secure initiated

In order to make cities water-secure and garbage-free and water-secure, the government has launched  Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban (SBM-U) 2.0 and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0.

SBM-U 2.0 comprising infrastructure projects and urban-rural convergence has been taken up on cluster basis to neighbouring Urban Local Bodies and the rural areas. The mission aims at utilizing common waste processing facilities.

As per the plans under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Transformation AMRUT 2.0 water markets for reuse of treated used water shall be ensured in rural-urban continuum with co-treatment of sewage through sewage treatment plans to be explored by Urban Local Bodies.

The members of rural areas will represent National, State and ULB level committees on sewerage/ water body/ river. Wherever feasible, capacity building convergence will be done through AMRUT 2.0.
